OUR HISTORY

The Digital Film Institute was started in 2004 in response to the growing need for a training center that offers state-of-the-art facilities with outstanding student-centered instructors.

Education Director Jim Kanter had previously built up the digital video departments for other training companies but grew frustrated with their failure to maintain a high quality learning environment. He and his wife started the Digital Film Institute with the goal of providing the best learning experience for people working with film and digital video.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that the best learning experience occurs by providing students with the following:

  • A comfortable environment
  • Equipment that works properly
  • Their own system to use, not shared with others
  • Knowledgeable, certified instructors with a proven record of real-world experience and a demonstrated love of sharing their knowledge
  • An understanding of fundamentals and how tools work, not just which buttons to press
  • Lectures and demonstrations followed by hands-on exercises
  • Attention to the specific needs of each student

OUR EQUIPMENT

We train students on their choice of OSX or Windows XP Pro systems. We use 23" and 19" LCDs (we have found them significantly better for your eyes after a day of training than traditional CRT monitors). All systems have an extended keyboard, 3-button mouse, and 6x8 Wacom Intuos3 tablet system. All software is licensed and we teach the current version of each application.
